Indication Indica-tion of n world-wide shortage of wheat this year, and a world-wide increase in demand, was reported by the American agricultural trade commissioner commis-sioner at London, who said broad was selling in England at what was generally gen-erally considered the highest price the workingman would tolerate without grave disorders. With Russia still in a chaotic state, Europe naturally turns to the United States, Canada, Australia, India rnd Argentina. Some European countries will be compelled to import much large quantities quan-tities of wheat than in pre-war times, provided they are able to arrange satisfactory sat-isfactory credits, the report said. Con fllctlng reports in London from Russia Rus-sia place wheat available for export at thirty-five million to one hundred forty million bushels, but railroad equipment is not sufficient to move nny large quantity. The British government has announced an-nounced the maximum price for the. 1920 crop to be the average price of imported wheat of similar quality, provided the price so paid the home grower shall not exceed $2.S9 a bushel. United Stales imports, the commissioner reported, were ranging from $3.04 to $4.11. or an average ot $3.46 a bushel. PARIS, April IS. The government's program for wheat control provides for price fixing for three years, guar anteeing the producer an adequate return. re-turn. CHICAGO, April 19. Wet weather had a decided bullish effect today on the gorn market. All deliveries de-liveries rose to now high price- levels for the season. Opening quotations which ranged from tolc up, with May $1.70 to 1.71 and July $1.65 to 1.66, were followed by moderate additional ad-ditional gains all around. Oats ascended with corn. After opening to lc higher, including July at 88 c. the market continued to climb. Provisions were firmer owing to tho advanco of grain and hogs. Trading, though, was light. oo SUGAR MARKET NEW YORK.
