Show LEONARD SAYS . MOVES FUIY Champion Explains His Part m Thrilling Reelers. By BENNY LEONARD. Boxing and making motion pictures are somewhat alike. That statement may startle a few, but it is true never-the-less. The most noticeable possible difference dif-ference between boxing and acting in the movies Is that in boxing you don't have to even musB your hair, if you can move quickly enough. But in motion mo-tion pictures they muss your hair a-plnnly. a-plnnly. And I've been thrown arojnd enough, too. In fact, at times Billv Gibson gets quite nervous. Those extra boys are rough. Once r. awhile, in some melodramatic scene, I get knocked down by the crooks and I come up angry At the start 1 used to come back strong, but I was reminded that it was only to make a picture real that they were after af-ter me and I didn't hit back, only when the script called for it. Maybe it's the best that I didn't as some one of those extras might have given me a good licking. Fighting In and out of the ring are entirely different. I never have so much difficulty in the ring for I can J runpretty fast. , You have to train to act in the movies just as you have to (rain for a fight. Stuart Holmes, who is onn of tho important characters in the picture, pic-ture, is training and coaching me in acting and so arc the other members ot the cast, as well aa Wally Van and Cordon Cooper, my directors. And In return I give them boxing lessons. 1 like this motion picture work It iB something new and novel and fas' Hnntinir. It kppns vnn Ihikv from morning until night. We are wording harder than usual for Billy Gibson is anxious that I get through as soon as possible in order that the fans be ! given a chance to see me in action iwith some of the leading contenders, i And I want to box again for 1 do not i want to take on too much weight, as this motion picture work will accomplish accom-plish for one, if he remains In It too long. Peuhaps after I have my career or am finished by come challenger I will take up this motion picture work as my future- occupation. You know 1 am just twenty-four and that isn't too old to learn. Sidney Ascher, my boss, tells me 1 have a future In It. He may be kidding me; but I'm going to try later on. on |
