Advances extending from large fractions to almost al-most four points, attended the early dealings, on the stock exchange today. Traders and speculative interests evidently evi-dently were encouraged by tho further weaking of the railroad strike and last week's favorable bank statements.! Steels, equipments and coppers re-: fleeted a substantial demand with su-j gars and utilities. Consolidated Gas' adding materially to lust Saturday's gain. Investment rails and shippings' also gave promise of further improvement. improve-ment. Prices reacted sharply soon after the openng, the setback starting with General Motors which' broke 26 points 10324 on comparatively small offer-; ings. Pressure against motors seemed to be based on reports of new tinanc-ing. tinanc-ing. Crucible Steel and other inde pendent issues of that group fell 1 to 3 points, also equipments, shippings, chemicals and textiles. Oills were less, affected than any other division, Shell Transport showing especial activity at a 3 point gain The market continued heavy during the forenoon, the nine! per cent rate for call money causing 1 further selllng'sclling. I Selling became extensive at midday when the United Slates Steel corpora tion stockholders were in session. Oils': reacted with steels, equipments, motors mo-tors and related specialties.
