Show THE WAR GARDEN MOVEMENT IN LOGAN CITY Responding to the appeals of tho government for mora extensive planting plant-ing and greater conservation of tlll able land space, tho city of 'Logan, In conjunction with tho Commercial Club, Inaugurated tho Homo Garden movement. Through a special commltteo appointed ap-pointed for the purposo a general mass meeting ofparonts and childron Interested was held, resulting In tho organization of a club with 1G5 hoys and 35 girls as onthuslatlc members. Tho inovoniont was financed by tho Commercial Club, tho school board and tho city. Mr. Dolores Nichols of tho U. A. C. had Immediate charge of tho work. All vacant lots In tho city wero listed. Club members wero nsslgnod lots free of cost. Many vnluahlo cash nnd morchandlso prizes wero offered by tho merchants to stlmu-lato stlmu-lato activity. Gardens wero carefully scored oach month by tho supervisor. Out of tho 200 mombers who entered en-tered the raco, 18G concluded tho season with successful gardens. Nono of theso scored below 87 points Tho monetnry valuo, at market prices, of tho produco grown was $19,03C90. Tho educational valuo was beyond computation. Tho wholo venturo has hoen so omlnontly successful that tho school board contemplates making tho movo a part of tho regular curriculum of tho schools of tho city. At the closo of tho summer's work when tho final prizes wero awardod many now members wero added to tho club, and tho prospects for still a bigger and moro successful war garden drlvo nro promising for tho season of 1918, |
