Show Amalgamated Sigar Company the Pioneers In. Sugar Manufacture The history of tho Amalgamated Sugar Company runs parallel with the growth "and development of tho County of Cache. It Is the hardy pioneer In sugar production in this county. It had a small beginning, but has kept pace with the growth and development of the county, and has consistently grown to Its present mammoth proportions. It has not played the selfish role, bu'at nil times has been ready and willing to do Its share In tho development of the county along other lines, and work for the promotion of the public good. Its first factory was built In Logan, Lo-gan, Immediately following tho election elec-tion of President McKinley. Its second se-cond factory was erected at Lowiston, and just recently tho third Installment Install-ment In this very Important brauch of Industry was erected at Smlthtteld. With this trio of plants It ts tho aim of tho company to equalize Its ton-migo ton-migo so that the sugar campaigns will begin and close nt the same time, thus Insuring no hardship upon a single Individual. Notwithstanding the late spring this season has produced more beets In tho county than ever before, and tho three factories will handle over 160,000 tons. In order to handle this Immense tonnage with dispatch, and In order to provide convenience for the beet grower, the company has spared neither time nor money, and tho latest loading devices aro found all along the railroads at every station sta-tion of consequence. Under such conditions tho farmer can handle his crrop on short order and with dispatch. And when It Is realised that the operations of tho company , with these three Cache County fac-I fac-I lories extend from Avon on tho south i to McCammon in Idaho, on the north tho decision Is reached at once that i without perfect organization, and tho latest In machinery, the Immense Im-mense yearly crop could not be handled han-dled without great loss to all those concorned. Tho company has boon most fortunate for-tunate lu scouring labor, and whllo In tho beginning labor troubles were frequent, and at times labor was hard to get, tho company has beon successful in handling all probloms of this kind. Tho latest addition Is the Smith-field Smith-field factory, and coupled with Its building Is tho extension of tho O. L. & I. to most all of I,owlston, and other Important sections woat of Hear River, making connection with this now plant. It was through tho Influence of tho Amalgamated Sugar Company that this oxtenslon wob built, thus giving tho beet growors In thoso sections of tho county better facllltites for tho markotlng of tholr crop, and at tho samo tlmo adding material increases to tho valuo of their land holdings. Tho Smlthfleld factory has cost more than either of the others, due to the high cost of material. It Is thoroughly modern and up-to-date and will easily care for its proportion propor-tion of the tonnago In this sectln of tho country. The Amalgamated Sugar Company took a keen interest in the building and installation of the mammoth puirjplnplaqfcjon Bear River from whlcn Ihousands of acres ,of ' heroto-foro heroto-foro arid lands' will be Irrigated. It has' never considered Its own business busi-ness paramount to the Interests of the community, and -wherever It can consistently nld In the development of n community along other lines it is willing and ready to do so. It believes In growth and progress, and figures that tho success of a community com-munity Is an asset to its own business, busi-ness, and likewise a failure In a community Is nothing more nor less than an indirect liability of Its own. Tho company says that the price of beets for next year Is to be $S.G0 per ton. It looks with a great deal of satisfaction on Its success In tho beet seed venture, and has every reason to belio've that within a short tltme it will bo taking care of Its own needs, and have a surplus for tho commercial trade.
