Show Initiation Ceremonies Held At L.D.S. Institute Of Religion Elaborate ceremonies Sunday evening eve-ning marked the initiation of 17 L.D.S. Institute students into the Lambda Delta Sigma, National organization of Students of Religion. Re-ligion. Although for the past three years there has been a local organization or-ganization on the same order, this marks the first induction of a local chapter in the National Fraternity. The gr iups, explains Roy A. Welker, Institute instructor, instruc-tor, will of necessity be small, in order to permit more active individual in-dividual participation, but it is possfble to have enough chapters to permit all of those who qualify each year to become members. Attending the program Sunday evening besides the students being be-ing initiated were their parents and a few specially invited guests. Also present were Instructor and Mrs. Gustave Larson of the Cedar City L.D.S. Institute with some members of their class; Pres. and Mrs. Glenn E. Snow, of the Dixie junior college, Mr. and Mrs. Pearson Pear-son H. Corbett and Mrs. Naomi C. Carr of the St. George L.D.S. Seminary. Seth Harper presided at the (Continued on page eight) Initiation Ceremony (Continued from first page) pipe organ. Due to illness Homer E. Robertson, president of the local chapter could not be present pre-sent and the ceremonies were conducted by Vice-President Ray Sorenson. Continuity reader was Miss Vella Washburn, with Earl Hafen, Miss Rene Lyman, Harold Hafen and Maurine Gardner presenting pre-senting the various phases of the order and Lavoid Leavitt assisting with the lighting effects. |
