Hope Expressed Farmers Will Be Able To Keach Pure Food Standard St. George stake of the L.D.S. ' church is completing plans this week for the installation of a molasses mill and refining plant to be in operation in time for the fall cane harvest, announces stake Pres. Harold S. Snow. According to information the grinding mill is to be a portable type and will be taken into the fields to extract the cane juice which will then be brought to the plant for refining. Dixie cane molasses has long had a reputation for its rich sun-sweet sun-sweet flavor but in the past, plants have not been able to fully comply with the U. S. Pure Food laws in the process of refining. With the installation of this plant it will be possible, say those in charge, to meet every requirement, require-ment, and Dixie brand molasses will go' onto the market without any apologies. The committee in charge of the project includes Anson B. Call, county agricultural agent; Grover Shakespeare, St. George; Bp. Wallace Wal-lace Iverson, Washington; F. J. Tobler, of Santa Clara. It is anticipated anti-cipated that many who have made the cane molasses in the past will be interested in this project, especially since plans are made for handling this product on a share basis with the growers. Those who desire to plant cane seed with the thought of having their molasses made by this plant are requested to get in touch with Mr. Call at the earliest possible date and discuss a planting program. pro-gram. The new plant is to be erected on the lot owned by the stake where the present welfare center building is now nearing completion, comple-tion, and will be ready for use when the cane is ripe say the committee. |
