Show Federal Marketing Agreement Discussed Here County Committee Feels Growers Would Benefit Under Proposal BY ANSON B. CALL County Agent The possibility of having a Federal Marketing agreement for the marketing of peaches in the State of Utah has been given a great deal of consideration in the State and in Washington county during the past two months. On April 20 the final meeting was held in the county at which time Dr. Arvil Stark, Dr. O. J. Wheat-ley Wheat-ley and Mr. Popst, from the Federal Marketing Trade commission com-mission from Washington, D. C, were in attendance and had a hearing of the proposed marketing agreement which was set up for the State of Utah. At this marketing agreement meeting a few changes were ac-( ac-( Continued on page eight) - Federal Marketing Continued from first pai?e) cepted by the county, but it was urvjed it this meeting by Mr. J'cHot that a committee from Washington county attend the n ! hearing, which included all of the State of Utah, at Salt Lake ; on April 22 so that any changes ; or recommendations which were : not includ'KJ in the agreement as written could be sent in with the statement to Washington. At ! this meeting the delegation from Washington county, which was elected at the Saturday night meeting, attended the hearing, i This delegation was comprised of the following: A. P. Spilsbury, Toquerville; Bernard Isom, Hur-! Hur-! ricane; Ernest Reber, Santa Clara; Clayton Sullivan, Leeds; Reed : WiLson, La Verkin and the county agent. Due to illness Reed Wilson did not attend. At this hearing everything that was discussed was taken down by a reporter and this was sent into Washington. After the finders from this State hearing it will be determined whether or not a marketing agreement will be conducted con-ducted in Utah during 1940. It is felt by the committee of Washington Wash-ington county that this will be of a great benefit to the fruit growers of Washington county to enable them to receive a better market for their peaches which are grown in this vicinity. The group which went to Salt Lake spent most of one day visiting visit-ing orchards in Utah county. |
