Show Bad Check Writers Still Thriving "And still the merry work goes on," said a business man of Gunnison yesterday. yes-terday. "Everyday and in every way it seems that the bad checks come and those who issue them fear nothing, and gloat over the fact that money comes so easy. I have here a check for one dollar. It was issued by a .young man on the local bank. . When presented I was informed that the signer of the check had had no funds in the bank for the past six months. How long will this proposition last and is there ever going to be an ending? end-ing? While the officers are sleuthing for moonshiners, would it not be a good idea to pay a little heed to the dangerous action of some of the boys of this city? Writing checks and receiving re-ceiving goods in payment therefor, when the person issuing the checks are positive they have no funds, is a very bad practice and in other communities com-munities severe penalties, are given. A jail sentence to some of the persistent persis-tent would be a good example and the sooner it is started the better it wili j be for some of the boys." I And the business man, who asked that his name be witheld is speaking correctly. The practice of issuing ! checks to the merchants of this city ; is getting to be a "hobby" with some' of the boys. In fact most every mer- j chant has from one to several dozen I "bogus" checks stored away. It is altogether wrong and drastic action should be taken to stop the practice before some of the promising (?) sons are landed behind the bars. 1 |
