Show Gunnison Man Named By County Republicans Joseph Christensen Lands Nomination Over Dyreng for Commissioner In Close Contest Other Nominees. Joseph Chrsitensen of Gunnison, was nominated on the first ballot for the office of two-year commisioner at the republican county convention held at Ft. Green last Saturday. The victory vic-tory of Mr. Christensen was not gained with ease, however, and the fight was keenly contested with P. P. Dyreng, present incumbent, and the nominee. Christensen won out by a margin of six votes to the good over his opponent. The vote stood at the! end of the first ballot Christensen, 39; 1 Dyreng, 3:5. ! k In as much as Dyreng had declared' himself long before the convention , that he would not seek reelection as; commissioners, the delegates were j hardly looking for a contest. Mellor j of Fayette, had considered entering . the field and it was feared that the northern delegations would be after; the plumb, but the fight centered be- i tween Christensen and Dyreng and the outcome apparently, was highly pleasing, and Dyreng was pacified by being named as candidate for representative repre-sentative from this district. In the race for the office of four-year-term county commissioner there were three candidates. Jorgensen of phraim, Cook of Ft. Green, and Draper of Moroni. It required two ballots to make a selection and Cook, who was considered a black horse, won out with a safe majority. On the first ballot Cook lead with a total vote of 35, with Jorgensen as second, , carrying 21 votes, with Draper 15. On the second ballot Draper lost ten to Cook, giving the winner 45, Jor-gonson, Jor-gonson, 22, and Draper 5. C. M. Edwards, who had been mentioned men-tioned prominently as the possible candidate for the office of county attorney, at-torney, lost to L. R. Christensen of Mt. Pleasant. The first bollot decided this office and Christensen won out by receiving 51 votes as against 20 for Attorney Edwards. Five candidates sought the offices of state representative from the two districts. Hyrum Christensen of Mayfield, who served at the last term of the legislature, P. P. Dyreng, of Manti, Joseph Bagnell of Chester, and J. R. Blackburn of Moroni, were the nominees before the convention. Dyreng Dy-reng of Manti, who was defeated for the office of county commissioner, entered en-tered the race at the last minute and won out over Christensen by a vote of 45 to 15. David N. Beal of Ephraim was the other nominee, receiving 51 votes as against 17 for Blackburn and 16 for Bagnell. Another keen fight was staged for the office of county chairman. E. D. Anderson of Moroni, Harry Rasmus-sen Rasmus-sen of Fairview and S. P. Peterson of Manti were named. The fight centered center-ed on Anderson and Rasmussen and on the second ballot was chosen, the vote being 31 for Anderson, and 27 for Rasmussen and 18 for Peterson.
