Show Valley Exhibits Win First Place : . Gunnison and the Gunnison Valley came out -with laurels with some splendid exhibits at the Eleventh annual an-nual county fair which came to a close last Friday evening. Nine first prizes were won and four second awards were made for exhibits from this section. In the department of domestic arts Mrs. J. A. Hagan won a first prize on curtains; a second prize was also awarded Mrs. Hagan for curtains. Mrs. Chas.' Rasmussen captured cap-tured first for a luncheon set, Mrs. Sidney Baxter first for tatted collar, and Mrs. S. J. Duggins a first for a .luncheon set. There was an elaborate elabor-ate array o fancy work in the domestic domes-tic art department. In the agricultural department Leslie Les-lie Kidman, one of the progressive farmers on the west side, won first and second on sugar beets, a first on potatoes and first on wheat. John M. Anderson, another exhibitor from the valley in the agricultural department, depart-ment, captured first and second prize on alfalfa, first on early Ohio potatoes pota-toes and second on cucumbers. ' Altogether Alto-gether the exhibits from the valley were clever and the victory for honors were easy. Generally speaking the fair this year, was below the average. The lack of livestock, of which the county has plenty, was one of .the noticeable fea- tures. The crowds at each day's attendance at-tendance was gratifying, but complaints com-plaints were heard that the exhibits were not up to the standard. There were plenty of concessions, however, and the men, women and children had plenty of chances to "fall" for the "skin" games and fatten the purses of the outside vendors. A well known county -exhibitor, in expressing his objections to the "skin" games, declared de-clared that if the management of the county fair would exert its energies in holding the money at home and cut out much of the "sure games" from outside points, applying the money for an attractive premium list, farmers farm-ers and all exhibitors would certainly i take more interest in the fair.
