Show Rams place 4th in Region Meet " '!4 & ' jf t I f t inY Moss I.UiKY (.HI I.N PA ROW AN - The Ham Grapplers traveled to Salina this last weekend and finished lourth among the nine Region Fight teams, Parowan also had two winners, I.arry Green and Tony Moss. North Sevier. Region winner. showed their strength from the very beginning. The Wolves led at the end of the first round and in the second round, Friday night, they did not loose one match, giving them a lead that could not be overcome. Individually, the Rams will send these wrestlers to state this weekend in Provo: Larry Green, Tony Moss, Tim Fox, Hill Moss, and Gordon Gurr. Larry Green, with a 19-0-0 record, again took first in Region by boating James Sorenson of North Sevier 3-0. Sorenson has proven to be Green's toughest competition this year and will be again in the state tournament. Green was named Wrestler of the Month for January as he carries the only undefeated, untied record for the Rams, Tim Fox, who finished third in Region, wrestled Kenny King of Piute for that slot. Fox had not beaten King during the regular season, but pulled through with a strong 7-4 victory. Bill Moss, wrestling at 126 pounds, has been improving as the season progressed, and finished third, earning a place in the state tournament. tour-nament. Moss faced Torgerson of the Wolves who had previously tied Moss 3-3 and strongly defeated the Wolf wrestler 7-2. Moss lost a close match to Wade Bradshaw of Beaver, 0-4, for the third place position. Gordon Gurr finished third behind Theron Jessup of Beaver and Lance Jackson of Kanab who was surprisingly sur-prisingly upset by Jessup in the final round. Gurr posted the most pins for the Rams during the tournament with three. Gurr will face Jessup in the first round of state this weekend. Jessup has previously been beaten by Gurr during the season and should provo to bo a good match. Tony Moss, HMD, also captured the Region Championship by deleating Doug Halloway of Milford, 12 8. Moss has been the only one to defeat Halloway in ail region and tournament competition and has done so three different times. Moss's only loss of the year was to Kesler of Milford, last year's State 2A Champion at i!7 pounds. In addition to the previously mentioned wrestlers who will go to state, Bryan Mount, Bruce Evans and Rich Halt also recorded victories to help the Ranis earn their fourth place finish. State Championships will be held this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday with the 1A and 3A finals at 15 YC. The 1A competition will begin at 1:00 p.m. Friday afternoon, followed bvy the second round at 6:00 p.m. Saturday's schedule will be the same except that Consolation Con-solation Championships will begin at 6:00 p.m. and Championship Finals at 7:30 p.m. Admission will be $2.25 for adults and $1.25 for students. Again, everyone is encouraged to follow the Rams as they will vie to individual state championships cham-pionships and possibly a strong team finish in the standings.
