Show T-bird Girls host Snow College Saturday A stiff home finale and a three-game preview of postseason post-season play lie ahead for the Southern Utah State College women's basketball team. The Thunderbird women host Snow College Saturday at 3 p.m. in War Memorial Fieldhouse. Then the following week they hit the road for games at Pueblo ( U . of S . Colorado ) , Colorado Springs (Colorado College), and Alamosa (Adams State), Colorado. "We expect a tough game from Snow College, but we are looking forward with anticipation to playing them," Joy Peterson, SUSC coach says. "In two games this season we have split; Snow won at Ephraim, 70-63, and we beat them here, 70-67." 70-67." Last week, SUSC cinched at least a first place tie in the Intermountain Conference with a resounding 91-68 victory over Idaho State University in a televised game at Pocatello. The 'Birds also came within an eyelash of winning the Ricks College invitational at Rexburg, Idaho. At Rexburg, SUSC clobbered clob-bered the Utah State University JV, 66-42, in the first round but faltered and lost a 69-68 decision to host Ricks College in the tournament's tour-nament's title game. The weekend action leaves SUSC's women with a 9-5 overall record and a 5-1 mark in the Intermountain Conference. The SU women have finished their conference con-ference season and will complete in regional play March 9-11 at Colorado Springs, Colorado. Idaho State, also expected to move into regional play, is in second place in the IMC with three wins and one loss. "We are playing well now," Peterson said. "The Idaho State game was probably our best of the year. We led all the way, and we finished with four players scoring in double figures." At Pocatello, SUSC led, 54-35, 54-35, at the half and was never headed. Dent Hendrix (25 points), Lori Taylor (12), Laura Bailey (12), and Chris Tea (11) scored in double figures. Tea had 11 rebounds, and Bone hauled down 10. Natalie Smith scored 17, Suzie Pederson 13, Lori Taylor 12 and Chris Tea 10 against USU. Tea (16), Taylor (14), and Smith (13) were also high against Ricks. Tea and Smith were named to the all tournament team at Ricks. For the season, Pederson ; , averages 15 points and Tea 14. Hendrix is just under 10 points per game. Tea and Taylor are the top rebounders. All three Colorado opponents op-ponents are expected to be in the eight-team regional playoffs. "The games next week should give us a good idea of how well we will do in the regional; they should be good for us," Peterson sadi. |
