Show Water Supply remains below average Although improvement is the word of the day, a Soil Conservation Service Ser-vice newsletter this week reminded residents of Eastern Iron County the water supply outlook is still below average. Snow cover varies from 67 percent of average on Parowan Creek to 147 percent on the Virgin River, the report said. Coal Creek is 103 percent of the February 1 average. Virgin River snow cover is based on two snow courses; one is Long Valley Junction, a low elevation course which has more than twice its average February l snow water content. Precipitation at mountain locations ranged from 97 percent of the January average at Tall Poles to 240 percent at Webster Flat. The October-January October-January totals now range from 69 percent at Tall Poles to 102 percent at Webster Flat. Soil moisture is well below average, the SCS said. Reservoir storage is reported below average in most small reservoirs. Lake Powell contains 14,789,000 acre feet or about 3,229,000 less than last year at this time, it adds. Streamflow forecasts range from 77 percent of the April-June average for the Virgin River near Virgin to 125 percent of average for Santa Clara near Pine Valley. Coal Creek is forecast 87 percent of the April-July average and Lake Powell Inflow is expected to be 122 percent of average, the long-range outlook stated. |
