The San Francisco Chronicie thinks I Utah may as well abandon its ambition am-bition to become a state at least for the present The reason is the Legislature Leg-islature and Salt Lake city have gone Republican and therefore the zeal of the Democratic party will receive a sudden abatement The Chronicle knows how It would be if the tables were turned The Republican party would have no zeal at all and would not move a peg towardsthe admission of a state unless it was expected to be Republcian It is on that ground no doubt that the Chronicle bases its estimate of the Democratic party It may be quite right That would not be surprising Parties always have some regard for party interests Utah will have to reap what it sows But we hope yet statehood in the near future I
