Show BASKIN IS PLEASED Over the Action Taken on His Bond lug Bill Mayor Baskin was In high feather last night on account of the favorable action taken upon his bonding bill by the House of Representatives and anticipates an-ticipates that within ten days the measure will have been passed by the Senate and signed by the president He has every reason to believe that Mr Cleveland will attach his signature t the act when it is referred to him for consideration especially as there has been no oposition whatever to it but on the contrary many appeals for its passage have been received The mayor ha devoted many months to the study of the finances of this city and has reached but one conclusion I that being an increase in the bonding power of the city The defeat of the measure now before Congress would I land the city in the slough of despond I indeed With a vast amount of outstanding out-standing indebtedness no money in the treasury the revenue for the year just passed already expended and the receipts re-ceipts of the municipality from licenses and other minor sources greatly decreasing de-creasing the present administration is confronted with a very gloomy outlook out-look there being but one ray of light the enactment into law of the pending bonding bill The city will have no difficulty in disposing of the bonds which will be placed upon the market through the provisions of the measure and with the money derived from the I sale of the bonds the city will be enabled en-abled to continue to successful cntnue a completion I I com-pletion the many public works now i under way thereby giving employment to many of the idle men This is the idea of his honor and the idea of every i 1 patriotic councilman The workingmen can only hope and pray for the success I of the measure I |
