Show JOHNSONS MORTGAGE BILL i Thc Chamber of Commerce Enters a Vigorous Protest At the last meeting of the board of Vdirectors of the chamber of commerce aTVesolution was adopted protesting against the passage of the Johnson I mortgage tax bill now pending before the Legislature The outline of the resolution was published In The Herald but the full protest as engrossed and sent t the governor and the Legislature Legisla-ture is as follows Whereas there is now pending in the lower house of the Territorial Legislature Leg-islature a bill providing for the taxation 1 taxa-tion of debts secured by mortgages and trust deeds upon real and personal property and Vhere the burden of such taxation would be borne not by the local capitalists cap-italists and money lenders but by the borrowing classes the worklngman who borrows sufficient funds where with to build a home and the enterprising enter-prising citizen who Is interested in the progress development and upbuild ing of our territory and Whereas the enactment of such a bill would be unjust to our citizens and injurious to Utahs interests and would place the capital necessary to the development of our resources beyond be-yond the reach of our people thereby prostrating our industries and retarding retard-ing universal growth and prosperity therefore be it Resolved That the board of directors of the Salt Lake chamber of commerce in behalf of the members of said chamber cham-ber enter our earnest protest against t the passage of said bill and be it further fur-ther 1 Resolved That a copy of these resolutions reso-lutions be forwarded to his excellency Caleb W West governor of Utah and to the honorable members of the Territorial Ter-ritorial Legislature |
