Show The Queens Proclamation k I i LONDON March 26The Queens message mes-sage calling out the reserves and militia i I is as follows i The present state of public affairs and the extent of the demand on Her I Majestys military forces for the protection I protec-tion of the interests of the Empire having I promoted in the opinion of Her Majesty j a case of great emergency Her Majesty i i has deemed it proper to provide additional i addi-tional means of military service She has therefore thought it right to communicate II com-municate to the House of Commons that she is about to cause the reserve forces I and such proportion of the militia as maybe I may-be deemed necessary to be called out for service The Daily News says The Queens message does not imply that peace is less hopeful it simply means that England will not shrink from the responsibilities to remove the impression abroad that England is reluctant to engage in war I This is true but there are some things preferable to peace some things worse than war The excuse that the Czar is unable to control his officers on I the Afghan frontier would be more convincing con-vincing if their acts were promptly disavowed I disa-vowed But they never have been disavowed disa-vowed The News hints that if necessary I neces-sary Indian soldiers will be employed to do garrison duty in England |
