Show WHEN ARE DAUGHTERS OLD ENOUGH TO HAVE DATES? The mothers of the country have rather varied opinions about when their daughters are old enough to have d:'U:s with boys. And to find out just what most of them think on this subject, sub-ject, a magazine has conducted a poll among its more than 3,700",()00 readers and the results are in the November i.;. l'.j ... the magazine. These show that 16 or younger is the concensus of opinion but and it's a pretty ' bier but it all depends on how-mature how-mature the daughters seem V- be-As one mother puts it, "Some girls at 14 are responsible baby sitters while some at 18 still need sitters themselves." But only 12 Vi per cent of all the mothers in the country think daughters should wait until the t deadline, until they're 1G to have beaux. Sixteen is the top age in most cases, and strangely enough the strongest vote for waiting until this age came from the Pacific Coast states. Most liberal about dates for girls younger than 16 are the west-north west-north - central and mountain states. They beat the south by a nose. But southerners cast the most votes' for the youngest age 14. What may be the most important thing the mothers said, and they were almost unanimous in saying it, is that daughter's dates, even on weekend week-end evenings, must end the same day. In other words, mothers want their daughters home before midnight, any day in the week. Most of them also want to know the boys, and their parents, too, who take out daughters at the tender age of 16 or under, and all of this sounds like pretty good sense. |
