Show Vocational Study Made By Basin School Instructors "Society demands that adjustments adjust-ments be made in our educational educa-tional systems in order that the training needs of today's youth may be met." So spoke Dr. E. Allen Bate-man, Bate-man, state superintendent of public instruction, Wednesday night at the Union High School, Roosevelt. He delivered the keynote key-note address to all vocational teachers of the Uintah and Duchesne Du-chesne districts at the fifth- in a series of nine regional conferences con-ferences in vocational education to be held in Utah during February. Feb-ruary. Dr. Bateman pointed out that at the resent time more of Utah's young people need training train-ing beyond high school in areas other than the professions. "Moreover," he said, "many of our high school students drop out just as soon as possible because be-cause they are not interested in strictly academic offerings." He said that they usually attribute their dropping out to finance, but that in many cases, they merely seize upon this as an excuse. 'Utah's vocational education edu-cation program can meet the needs of many young people I who are not interested in strictly strict-ly academic endeavor, and training in this area will meet vital needs in the state," he said. Wednesday's conference included in-cluded guidance counselors and teachers of home economics, vocational vo-cational agriculture, industrial arts, business, and trade and industrial in-dustrial education from Uintah and Duchesne districts. Sections were led by Mark Nichols, state director of vocational education; Elvin Downs, assistant state director di-rector of agricultural education; Hal C. Cheney, state director of business education; Von H. Robertson, Rob-ertson, state director of trade and industrial education; Algot E. Anderson, state director of industrial arts; and Dr. Vernon F. Larson, state director of guidance services. Superintendents and principals princi-pals in the area discussed administrative ad-ministrative problems of the vocational program with Dr. Bateman and Mr. Nichols hi section meetings. |
