Show ADVERTISING MAKES YOU LIVE BETTER "Advertising helps you live better for less" is the theme of Advertising Recognition Week, February' 19 to 25, being celebrated throughout Utah and 11 western states. It is part of a current nation-wide program to honor the vital part advertising adver-tising plays in the life of each citizen. One of the most important ways advertising helps us "live better for less' is by bringing us new ideas for use in our daily lives. For instance, several generations ago every housewife house-wife made her own soap. Advertising convinced the public that soap produced by a manufacturer was even better and certainly more convenient. A cake of soap today, bought from a store, costs less than only the ingredients would cost to make at home. Only a few years ago, cake, cookie and pie mixes were new. Women' who took pride in their baking scoffed at the idea. But advertising convinced the women of America that ready mixes are economical, convenient, and equal in quality to home mixed ingredients. As a result, many homes enjoy cakes and pies that wouldn't otherwise, for every homemaker isn't a good baker. ' The same story is repeated over and over again. Frozen foods, bail point pens, electric shavers and dozens of other new products have been started on the road to general acceptance accept-ance by advertising. All of these are new ways of doing old things, ways that help us "live better for less,", and certainly good reason to set aside one week of the year to give credit to advertising for the role it plays. . |
