Show Applications for Legislature and Davis Board of Education must be filed by April 15th By GARY R. BLODGETT FARMINGTON Filing deadline for Davis County Commission, seats in the Utah Legislature, Legisla-ture, and now the Davis Board of Education is only one month away. Applications for any of these positions must be received at the Davis County Clerk's Office, room 108 of the Davis County Courthouse, Farmington, by 5 p.m. on Friday, April 15. Candidates for Davis Board of Education in the past had until the middle of June to file their " f applications. But this has been moved forward to coincide with the deadline of other county and state election deadlines. , School Board President Sheryl Allen announced last week that she will not seek re-election to the Davis Board of Education representing Precinct 2, or the north Bountiful area. She has been a board member since 1977 and said she will not seek a fourth term because she plans to return to graduate school next fall. Henry Heath of Precinct 3 said he too will not seek another term on the School Board. He is representing the area covering Kaysville, Fruit Heights, Farmington and Centerville. Precinct 1, which covers North Salt Lake, Woods Cross and parts of southwest Bountiful, is also up for grabs. Incumbent Ray Briscoe, who now represents this area, has not announced his intentions to seek re-election. This is a non-partisan election and there is no filing fee for applicants. Two of the three posts held by the Davis County Commission will also expire this year. One is for a two-year term and the other is a four-year term. Incumbent Commissioner Glen Saunders is completing a four-year term while Com. Harold Tippetts is wrapping up a two-year term. Com. William (Bill) Peters is serving an unexpired four-year term, and his office will not be up for re-election. Thus, residents of north Davis County will be seeking a four-year term on the commission while central Davis County residents will be filing for a two-year term. Neither Com. Saunders or Tippetts has announced plans for re-election. Filing fee for the four-year seat is $220, and for the two-year post, $110. For many years Commission candidates have honored a "Gentlemen's Agreement" by filing for a post that is in the area in which they reside. There is only one seat available for State Senate from Davis County that is now being held by Rep. Jack Bangerter of Bountiful. Filing Fil-ing fee for this post is $10. There are eight seats "up for grabs" in the race for State House of Representatives and none of the incumbents has formally announced their plans for re-election. Seven of the eight incumbents are Republicans, the only Democrat is Joe Hull who represents District 13. Candidates for the Legislative District 15 seat should file with the Lt. Governor in Salt Lake City because that district includes not only the Clinton and Sunset areas of Davis County but also a part of the Hooper area of Weber County. This and all legislative seats in Davis County districts have a filing fee of $5. District 14 covers Syracuse, West Point and the southwest area of Clearfield. District 15 includes South Weber and the northeast section of Layton. District 16 includes the remaining area of Layton. District 17 covers Kaysville, Fruit Heights, Farmington and a small portion of Centerville. District 18 includes the remainder of Centerville, Center-ville, West Bountiful and a small portion of north Bountiful. District 19 covers most of Bountiful proper. District 20 includes a part of Bountiful and all of Woods Cross and North Salt Lake. Candidates are urged to contact the Davis County Courthouse to be certain that they file for the district in which they reside. |
