Show Jimmy Grant Wins Third In Pentathlon Final Jimmy Grant, of the Duchesne school, last Saturday established himself as the third best young athlete in the Intermountain West as youngsters from all over the western part of the nation na-tion met at Sout High School for the 15th annual Desert News Junior Pentathlon grand champion cham-pion finals. Louis Hutchinson, of Panaca Nev.) Elementary School, played high, stacking up 4611 points; Arnold Sprague, of the Overton (Nev.) school, placed second with 4189.2 points, and our own Jimmy Jim-my Grant, of the Duchesne school,, placed third with 4146 points. Jimmy won first place in the Junior Division at the meet held at Alterra two weeks ago; Dean Young, also of Duchesne, placed first in the Senior Division. Jimmy is now the proud possessor pos-sessor of four beautiful trophies, having taken first place in the Uintah district meet for three consecutive years. Jimmy's rating was based on this average in the five events as follows: 50-yard dash 7.0 seconds; high jump 4 ft. 10 in.; basketball basket-ball accuracy goal throw 26 goals within a two minute period; per-iod; broad jump 15 ft. 6 in.; ball put (5-pound shot) 41 ft. 9 in. Dean Young averaged the best time for the 75-yard dash with his 9 second timing, senior class. |
