Show Our Boys In The Service KIRK C. WILKINS Navy wings of gold now adorn the uniform of Ensign Kirk C Wilkins of the United States Navy- Having successfully completed his flight training, he was designated a naval aviator av-iator on May 31 by Rear Admiral Ad-miral F. M. Hughes, USN. chief of naval air basic training, during dur-ing ceremonies held at the Naval Na-val Air Station, Pensacola. Fla. Ensign Wilkins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Wilkins, of Roosevelt, Roos-evelt, graduated from Brigham Young university in June, 19,4 and entered the Navy in October 1949 with his c o m m i s s, i q n through the Direct Procurement program. He began his aciive flight training hi October 1949 when he reported to the U, S. Naval Schoql. Pre-flight. at NAS Pensacola, where he completed a strenuous schedule in military, mil-itary, academic and physical training. From Pre-flight, he was advanced to basic training, train-ing, which consisted of primary, aerobatics, instruments, gunnery and tactics, and was climaxed by six take-offs and landing-s in his SNJ "Texan" trainer aboard the aircraft carrier USS Wright. He was then sent o advanced training at Corpus Christi, Texas, Tex-as, for a four-month syllabus in combat type aircraft. After this, he returned to Pensacola to qualify aboard the USS Monterrey Monter-rey in his combat-type aircraft before receiving his wings. Ensign Wilkins has been ordered or-dered to report to the Naval School of All Weather Flight Training at Corpus Christi, Texas.. Tex-as.. Upon comDletion of this training, he will report to the Commander of Air Forces. Pacific Pa-cific Fleet, where he will be asigned his next duty station. |
