Show Seek After Dead . . . 3 LD.S. Stakes Join In Genealogy Convention ! Next Sunday, June 17, three L.D.S. stakes in the Uintah Basin Ba-sin will join together at Roosevelt Roos-evelt in a Genealogical convention, conven-tion, which is designed to acquaint ac-quaint workers in the church with progress in research and ideas concerning the work that has become so much a cart of the church's program for seeking seek-ing after their dead. Duchesne, Moon Lake and Roosevelt stakes are expected to send their stake presidencies, and stake genealogical commit- tee workers and the various wards likewise are urged to encourage en-courage their committees to attend. at-tend. The general public is invited in-vited to join in the convention. Bishoprics are being asked to be represented. According to James M. Kirk-ham, Kirk-ham, chairman of convention committees for the church, who made the announcement of the tri-stake convention, the church genealogical society now has 22 microfilm operators who are' copying the genealogical records rec-ords in many countries. Four of these are in the eastern United States and 18 others are scattered scat-tered through the different countries in Europe. Approximately Approxi-mately 100,000 pages of genealogical genea-logical material is sent daily to the library. Each operator will copy about 5000 pages each day. The church's society will soon have one of the largest libraries in the world, and now has the equivalent in microfilms and books of over 300,000 books, all dealing with helpful research material. The convention, which will open Sunday morning at 10 o'clock o'-clock at the Roosevelt seminary, will be presided over by Bert Stoddard, chairman of the Roosevelt Roos-evelt stake committee. Meetings will be held at 10 a. m. and 2 p. m. Representing the general gen-eral church genealogical committee com-mittee will be Archibald F. Bennett, Ben-nett, general secretary. He will be the main speaker, with reports re-ports from the three stake committees, com-mittees, and short talks from stake presidents, and by others that might be called by those conducting. The 2 p. m. session will be held at the Roosevelt chapel. |
