Show Threatening Weather, Lack Of Support Cause Fair's Failure However, Some Livestock, Most General Exhibits Surpass Last Year; Mtn. Home Girl County Queen Threatening weather and general gen-eral county-wide lack of support sup-port made this year's Duchesne county fair even more of a disappointment dis-appointment than that of last year, according to a prominent county fair official. "What we needed most," he said, "was enthusiastic support throughout the county. Western West-ern Duchesne county was poorly represented, and support from the eastern end of the county was scarcely apparent." However, some livestock exhibits, ex-hibits, beef cattle and hogs, were better than last year, but sheep and dairy cattle exhibits did not come up to the 1949 standards. The Girls 4-H club exhibits, at the Duchesne high school, were more numerous and somewhat some-what better in quality than last year's. Generally, exhibits in 4-H club work, the women's department depart-ment and the open class division were good. The lack of entries in certain classes and a small turnout, partially due to threatening threat-ening clouds and intermittent rains, were primarily responsible respon-sible for the fair falling below expectations this year, the official of-ficial said. Miss Colleen Stevenson, Mtn. Home, will represent Duchesne county in the Miss Utah contest at the Utah State fair. She, incidentally, in-cidentally, is the first county contestant to attend a state fair Miss Utah contest. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lorin Stevenson, Steven-son, she was adjudged Miss Duchesne county Saturday night during the contest finals.
