Show County Polio Chairman Urges Support As the March of Dimes drive in Duchesne County went into its second full week, Mrs. An-thon An-thon B. Christensen, county director di-rector called upon all residents of this county to step up the pace in the fight against polio. This year should be the greatest great-est March of Dimes in history, CORRECTION L.ast week it was erroneously reported that $18.05 had been collected at the basketball game for polio. It should have read $103.05. . and the incentive comes from the stark realization that the country has just gone through the worst polio epidemic in history his-tory with over 57,000 patients in 1952. The nation is now faced with the task of raising $50,000,000 to handle last year's 'patients and 46,000 victims of other years. Over 41 million dollars were collected last year and those contributions paid the patient care for some 90,000 persons at an expenditure of $28,000,000. Over $18,000,000 was spent last year on polio research. In Utah last year, 81 cents of svery dollar contributed to polio was spent directly on patient care. Duchesne County spent over $500 last year for patient care, and has pledged to help any other victims of polio to the extent that help is needed. Half of all the money collected collect-ed in the county is retained here for use in patient care, and if 'hat is not sufficient to care for the cases in event of an epidemic, epidem-ic, the National Foundation is ready to assist, whatever our needs are. Give generously fifty cents xt person, to help Duchesne County reach its quota. |
