Show A Hot Time In Town . . Union Greets Uintah Friday, As Duchesne Hosts Tabiona Perhaps the nearest thing to "impossible" would be to find an area where interest "in coming com-ing basketball games Friday night would be greater than right here in the Uintah Basin the other half of Region Five. Yep, when Union plays Uintah, Uin-tah, there's bound to be a hot time in the old town that night . '. . and that's what happens, come Friday, Jan. 16, when Coach Glen Allred and the Cougars from Union will be hosts to the Marcus Garret coached Utes from Uintah High School. . . Then, just for good measure, the Eagles of Duchesne will host the invading Tigers from Tabiona, where rivalry and interest will be just as keen as in the east part of the Basin, j Altamont draws a bye. B teams play at 6:45 and the big games are scheduled for 8 o'clock. Here's the deal Union and Uintah each won their Opening games, with the Utes of Uintah having defeated Tabby and Duchesne, Du-chesne, and Union won their initial in-itial game with Altamont. Thus the Utes are leading the division by virtue of their two wins, with the Cougars right on their heels with one win in as many starts. . . Then with Tabiona having won their game with Altamont Al-tamont and losing to Uintah, they are in third, a game ahead of Duchesne, who lost their only league game to date. Therefore, standing of the four top teams will be more definitely established estab-lished come Friday . night. Another foul infested ball game was played in Vernal Friday Fri-day night as the Utes clipped the wings of the Duchesne Ea-?les Ea-?les 59-42 that saw 96 foul pitches allowed in the 32-min-ute contest. The Eagles converted convert-ed 24 out of 56 foul shots and the Utes hit 17 out of 40 from the foul line. Leading Coach Darwin Wood-berry's Wood-berry's Eagles on the offensive side of the contest was his elon (Continued on page 11) Basketball . . . (Continued from oaae 1) gated center, Udell Birch, who was high man in the contest with 21 points. Lee with 14 led! the Uintah entry while Wells and Anderson with 12 and 10 aided the cause of the Utes. It was a brother act at Tab-iona Tab-iona that helped the Tigers overcome over-come a 3-point deficit at the end of the third quarter to score 20 points in the last period while holding the Altamont Longhorns to 12 and set themselves them-selves up in third place, with one game- won and one .lost. Basil Defa, smooth working Tiger and his kid brother, Myr-thon, Myr-thon, hit for 18 and 14 points respectively. However, the real star of the contest was little Freddy Burson, whose speed on a basketball court is something to watch. This clever little Indian In-dian youngster came through with 9 buckets from the field and 3 charity tosses for a 21 total. Bob Fieldstead with 16 kept pace- with Burson and the Defa brothers for scoring honors. hon-ors.
