Show Aptitude Tests For Senior Students given At Onion High School; Juniors To Be Tested Later In Year Approximately 110 senior students stu-dents at Union High School were given aptitude tests during dur-ing the first three days of this week under the direction of the Utah Department of Employment Employ-ment Security, is an announcement announce-ment made by L. F. Hutchings, principal. v According to Mr. Hutchings, ! the purpose of the tests is to ! help students determine where their talents and abilities lie,! which will be a guide to them as they prepare to face life's problems and foes. Then, too, the tests will assist potential employers em-ployers determine which of the graduating high school students would best fit into his program. It also affords the high school faculty a golden opportunity to offer guidance to students toward- a given field the student has demonstrated a tendency and a talent. S. C. Heiner, manager of the Employment Office at Vernal, directed the testing, with James F. Jordan, state employment counselor and supervisor, and his assistant, Jennings Lee, giving giv-ing the tests. The aptitude testing service is not new in Utah, but is the first time it has been done at Union High or in Duchesne county school. The tests were given in Vernal the past two years and will be given again this year. Later on junior students stu-dents will be tested, and in future years it will be the junior jun-ior class members who will have this service each year. It has been carried on in Salt Lake schools for four or five years. There are 152 seniors enrolled this year. Two has withdrawn, and illness and various other excuses found only approximately approximate-ly 110 available for the tests during the week. Graduating class members who missed tb-? test this time will have a chance .when the junior class is 1 screened. |
