Show School Notes The Senior class from Altamont High school chartered a bus and made a trip to Salt Lake City to attend Senior Day at the University Univer-sity of Utah. Mrs. Bernard Dastrup and Mrs. Linford Maxfield acted as chaperones. Bonnie Ann Ames, Coralie Max-field Max-field and Carolyn Dastrup attended special meetings Thursday and Friday of the Future Teachers Association. All the teachers from both the high school and the elementary school attended the Utah Education Educa-tion Association conference in Salt Lake during the Thursday to Sunday Sun-day weekend. Ten boys and girls of the Alta-mont Alta-mont High school band and director direc-tor David Watkins, made the trip into Salt Lake to participate in the All State Chorus of 385 voices and the boys played with the U of U invitational band. After the performance the boys saw the football game as guests of the school. Those attending were: Chad Hansen, Laird Hartman, Lloyd Burton, Phil Lyons, Kent Williams, Eva Swasey, Sherrie Hartman, Marilyn Young, Maureen Peterson and Kathy Hartman. FI.F.MF.NTARY NEWS In the words of the Eelementary reporter, Delyse Hansen, we bring you these news items. During September some of the Elementary students cleaned the tumbleweeds off the playgroud, then when Altamont played Tabi-ona, Tabi-ona, the high school cleaned the playground off real nice smoothing smooth-ing it out and cleaning off what tumbleweeds were left. - The sixth grade science class has been studying about airplanes. Airman McNut from Vernal came to the school and showed us a film on airplanes. He talked to us and left some charts for us to use in our study. He came on Thursday, Sept. 27 and Oct. 4. He works in Vernal. The sixth grade made signs saying say-ing that no cars can come out on the road in the playgrounds, onjly busses and deliveries. . Wednesday, Oct. 3, was P-TA. The first grade won the banner by having 12 parents out to the meeting. About the middle of September the highway was oiled close to the school. The caterpillars sure made lots of noise! Mrs. Naomi Denver and her family visited her husband in Eureka on the four-day weekend, spending one night in Payson. MISSIONARY REPORTS ON WORK IN FINLAND Of special interest at Sacrament meeting Sunday night was a talk given by a returned missionary, Perry' Maxfield. He related some incidents from his missionary experiences ex-periences in Finland. His father, Lester Maxfield, made a few brief remarks. Mrs. Rita Hansen and Norma Hansen sang a duet, "The Lord Is My Shepherd." Those atending the Mia Maid Fireside in Mtn. Home conducted by Dwayne Stevenson Sunday afternoon, were Mrs. Florence Mohlman and Lynda, Mrs. Ona Rust and Melba, Mrs. Fay Mecham and Sherry Hartman. Mrs. Coleen Nielson has been home for the weekend to visit her children who are staying with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Les Orr. Coleen is working and making her home in Salt Lake City where she plans to take her children. Mr. and Mrs. Max Hartman spent four days in Salt Lake City where Mrs. Hartman attended the UEA meetings. Sherrie sang with the special chorus that sang in the tabernacle. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Young and Mr. and Mrs. Bernell Buchanan Buchan-an were in Salt Lake City one day last week doing Temple work. Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Nebeker visited vis-ited with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Miles last weekend. Mrs. Nebeker stayed for the week. On Sunday the whole family' went to Boneta to the home of Henry Tidwell to visit Mr. and Mrs. Ben Perkins. Present also were Mr. and Mrs. Grover Mitchell. Later that day the Miles family visited Mr. and Mrs. Atwood at their home in Bluebell. Miss Gayle Case was home over the weekend to visit her parents for the first time since going to school at the BYU three weeks before school opened. Sunday callers at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Evan Bennion, Mr. and Mrs. LeGrand . Mecham and Mrs. Ona Rust and daughter were in Salt Lake City for medical checkups: Mr. and Mrs. Irving Snow were Mrs. Erickson and her son-in-law, from Helper. Mr. and Mrs. Snow attended ths funeral of Dave Davies in Utahn on Friday. Mrs. Edith Hansen visited with friends and relatives in Mt. Emmons Em-mons over the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bearden and Gwen visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ken Bearden Saturday night and Sunday. The two Mr. Beardens went to the Green Lakes and the Flaming Gorge Dam site situated above Vernal. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Mitchell of Upalco visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. LaVear Timothy Sunday afternoon. Miss Deone Fisher went to Salt Lake City to visit. her parents during dur-ing the school holiday returning Sunday. 'Mr. and Mrs. Carl William Anderson have just returned from an extended visit to their daughter's daugh-ter's home in Sunnyside, the Grant McDonalds. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Crosby spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Crosby. Sunday guests at their home were Mr. and Mrs. Dale Crozier and family. Duane, Sherri'l and Steve Evans were dinner guests. Saturday, Oct. 16, Mrs. Earl Case was called to the bedside of her brother, Merlin Kynaston, in Tucson, Arizona. She, with her husband, hus-band, left at once and in Orem were joined by a brother, Ray, and his wife for the trip there. After four days they returned by way of Farmington, New Mexico, where Mrs. Case was able to greet a sister who lives there. DISCUSS PROBLEMS The P-TA Advisory Council met and discussed school problems and decided on ways and means of contacting students and teachers to help solve some of these knotty questions. |
