Show Parents-Teachers Express Program Desires At F.leet (Crowded Out Last Week) Parents and teachers assembled last Thursday evening in the first P-TA meeting of the year at the Roosevelt Junior High - School. President Orin (Hank) Swain presided pre-sided and introduced the oficers, sided and introduced the officers, committee chairmen and room representatives who will carry for-nine for-nine months. Brief pep talks were given by the membership chairman, Mrs. LaVere Labrum, and by Mrs. Hank Swain and Mrs. Fran Harrison, who pointed out the excellent articles appearing each month in the Parent-Teachers magazine. Magazine chairman is Mrs. Kenneth Ken-neth Morgan. Mrs. Earl Dillman and Mrs. Cliff Memmott program co-chairmen, conducted a buzz session in which each parent had the opportunity to express his desires and suggestions for future P-TA programs. The "buzz" session resulted in the majority wanting the following worked into future meetings: Developing SelNResponsibility in Children; How the School Meets Individual Differences; What Is Expected at Various Age Levels; Family Relations that Make Happy Children and Parents; and school problems generally'. 1 Ways preferred for having these programs presented included guest speakers, panels and films. Preference was made also by the group to have a Parents' Night at School instead of Parents' Day. They felt they would like better parent-teacher contact; and the majority sanctioned the idea of the P-TA helping to sponsor a summer receational program for young children. A large group favored a parent study group. The chairman of each of the eight groups making up the "buzz" session, made a brief report at the end of the alotted time and a final summary was then made by Mrs. Paul Stringham, 1st vice-president. vice-president. Cider and doughnuts were served serv-ed by the hospitality co-chairmen, Mrs. Donald Laris and Mrs. Robert Ferron. The attendance banner at the Elementary school went to Mrs. Grant Chugg's 3rd grade, and honors hon-ors at the Junior High were won by Phillip Merkley's home room. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 1. |
