Show flew Chevrolets Due To Be Displayed Friday 'Fuel, injection and a new triple-turb.ine triple-turb.ine automatic transmission will make their debut on the 1957 Chevrolets. The Chevrolet Motor Division announced that fuel injection will be introduced on the Corvette engine, en-gine, a lively new V8 of 283-horse-power that is to be available as an option throughout the, line of Chevrolet passenger cars'. Abo unveiled un-veiled for the first time is the new transmission, known as the Turboglide. The 1957 Chevrolets go on display dis-play at McKinlay Motor Co. showrooms, show-rooms, Friday, October 19. In addition ad-dition to the trail-blazing RAMJET fuel injection and the new transmission, trans-mission, the latest models present a multiple of other styling and performance features that promise greater owner satisfaction than ever before. Fuel injection, a long-time objective ob-jective of American automotive engineers in their quest for ideal flexibility in perfomance, replaces the customary carburetor. Because of quicker power response and faster warm-up, it is expected to gain almost universal adoption within a few years. Chevrolet pioneers the device. ' The Turboglide transmission is a Chevrolet exclusive. It carries the principle of torque conversion-first conversion-first introduced in Chevrolet's Powerglide in 1950-to a new peak in efficiency. The triple-turbine-with infinitely1 variable ratio char-actistics-produces an uninterrupted driving force at all speeds. There is no feeling of "shift." In eye-appeal the 1957 Chevrolet differs strikingly from the 1956 model. While two and one-half inches have been added to overall lengths, the horizontal sweep of new styling motif gives the impression im-pression that the car is even longer than its 200 inches. Common to the design of all passenger cars is a rugged front end that combines a massive guard and bumper ensemble with an aluminum grille screen and inset parking lamps. Lance-shaped wind-splits wind-splits on the hood add a touch of modernity. However, most of the duplication in the appearance between be-tween the three series ends here. On. the seven bodies in the Bel Air series, for instance, a lean chromium spear extends rearward from the headlamp, spreading gracefully downward to the bumper bump-er and also branching upward as a rear quarter molding. The area encompassed by the diverging lines of the spear may be two-toned to conform with the body roof color or fitted with an optional panel of rolled aluminum. Two-Ten models, eight in number, have a single downsweep lance molding from front to rear. One-Fifty side moldings on four body models extend ex-tend downward from the sash and then horizontally across the rear fenders. To power its 1957 line, Chevrolet will build one six and four new V8s ranging in output from 149-horsepower 149-horsepower for the six to a sensational sen-sational one-horsepower per cubic inch of displacement for the "Corvette V8." The Corvette engine en-gine develops 283- horsepower with the RAMJET fuel injection system. |
