Show A Girl And Boy . . . Seminary Finalists Chosen In L.D.S. Declamation Contests Carolyn Whiting and Scott Edrington Sunday night were declared the winners in the finals of the Roosevelt L.D.S. Stake Seminary contest that saw over 300 students entered who are taking1 classes in re- -T- Speech Winners ; ; . - , v . - ' ' J - J , ' " " " ' - t i JtA ". N MISS CAROLYN WHITING was a winner in the Roosevelt Roose-velt L.D.S. Stake Seminary Declamation contest. Her subject sub-ject was "There Will Be A Tomorrow." She is a junior student., at Union High and is a resident of Neola. x . f , - 1 U t - - - ; SCOTT EDRINGTON His address on "The Last Days" won him his second consecutive consecu-tive first place rating in the 1952 Seminary Declamation contest. . . .He won the boy's title in 1951 and is a junior at Union High. ligious training in the Roosevelt Junior High and Union High ' School Seminaries. Miss Whiting is a resident of Neola and is in her junior year at Union High, where she is prominent in school activities. A second-time winner, Scott is also a junior and was the boy's winner in 1951. Title of Carolyn's Car-olyn's talk was, "There Will Be A Tomorrow." "The Last Days" was the subject of Scott's winning address. Both students were awarded a triple combination combin-ation (Book of Mormon, Doctrine Doc-trine and Covenants. Pearl of Great Price) for their efforts. Other finalists and the subjects sub-jects they talked on were: Re-nae Re-nae Eldredge, "As We Do;" Jo-Anne Jo-Anne Todd, "The Three Questions Ques-tions of Life;" Kenneth Nickell, "In Moral Integrity Lies Strength;" and Tom Rowley, "Priesthood." There was very little difference in the relative standings of the six students, whom the judges said wera "very, very close." The finals were held in connection con-nection with the regular Sacrament Sac-rament meeting for both tne Roosevelt and Roosevelt Second Wards, which joined together to hear the talks. Bishop R. V. Larson presided over the meeting meet-ing and Melvin Peterson, seminary sem-inary instructor, conducted the program.- A vocal trio, composed com-posed of LaRae Drollinger, Janet Jan-et Stevens and Janice Anderton, accompanied by Ann Payne, sang two numbers.
