Some exceptional foul shooting (20 out of 26), kept the Eagles in the ball game as they lost by a close 45-40 score. The Longhorns from Altamont Alta-mont kicked up their heels and beat a gallant Tiger crew from Tabiona 65-51 and sounded a warning to the rest of the league that they are going to be plenty tough before the season is over. Offensive star of the night was dimunitive Gary Jessen, 5'8" forward, who hit 29 points for the Longhorns. Delbert Fabrizio, Tabby veteran scored 19 to lead the Tigers, who were ahead 29- 9.5 at. the half While Altamont and Uintah were winning first round games in the league, Union won a 45-37 45-37 practice game from Pleasant Grove. The Cougars looked mighty sharp winning Friday night with Larry Allred playing play-ing outstanding ball on defense and Craig Hutchings showing marked improvement. Smooth Packy Fenn carried the scoring punch for Union, with Norman Hanson and Reuben Broderick contributing greatly to the success suc-cess of the 1953 B champs. The Utes showed a fine balanced bal-anced team with Veloy Eaton, center, scoring 20 points for honors. The Eagles played without with-out the services of Jimmy Grant, and the absence of this fine little ball player might have made a difference in the outcome of the game. Jerry Bur-dick Bur-dick and Leon Sprouse were most effective for the Eagles. This week Duchesne travels to Tabiona and Union, playing their first league game, will journey to Vernal to' match skills with the team picked to win the division. Preliminary games are of schedule at both Tabby and Vernal at 6:45 with the B teams playing. The Box Scores: |
