Show Oraig Meeting Starts Activity For Highway 49 Association; flew Officers, Directors Selected Edward (Ed) Harding, Craig businessman, last Saturday was selected to head the newly activated acti-vated Highway 40 Association (Colorado-Utah division) at a very enthusiastic meeting heid in the Cosgriff hotel in Craig. He succeeds Francis Felch, of Vernal. Approximately 15 towns and cities situated along Highway 40 from Denver to Salt Lake City were represented at the meeting, which, in addition to the selection of Mr. Harding, who is also a member of the Colorado Col-orado state legislature and a native of Price, Utah, chose Chester Lyman, Duchesne, as vice-chairman for Utah (he was re-elected); George P. Rody, Denver, vice-chairman for Colorado; Colo-rado; and Charles Gentry, Craig, as secretary. Frank Ward, of Vernal, is the retiring secretary and Maurice W. Leckenby, Steamboat Springs publisher, was the other vice president who was replaced on the officer slate. The group convened at the Cosgriff hotel at 2:30 p. m. and immediately recessed long enough for each community to select one of its members to serve on the board of directors, which in turn elected the above officers. Mayors Otto Johnsen and Homer P. Edwards will serve from Duchesne and Roosevelt, Roos-evelt, respectively. Following the election of officers, of-ficers, the meeting was opened to a general discussion of ideas and suggestions pertaining to the association and its main objective ob-jective "tourist business." After the general meeting had been adjourned, the board and officers met briefly to formulate some immediate action, with the following two major projects being be-ing accepted: First, to maintain the Kimball Junction sign located at the head of Parley's Canyon, where Highways High-ways 40 and 30 separate; and to erect a sign in Provo canyon encouraging en-couraging travelers to' "stay on Highway 40 all the way." Second project is to affiliate with the AAA in both Salt Lake City and Denver and keep their offices informed constantly of road conditions from Denver to Salt Lake, as well as beyond. In the near future the officers offic-ers will make an allotment or quota for each town along the way and a membership drive will get underway. Each director direct-or will supervise the drive in his community. Others attending from Duchesne Du-chesne and Roosevelt in addition addi-tion to Mayors Johnsen and Edwards Ed-wards were James Hatch, Oscar Beebe, Mr. Lyman, and their wives, from Duchesne. Dwain Buchanan and Cliff Memmott attended from Roosevelt. |
