Show AtZXafiLtVU BOJU XCONOKGi BY LOUIS A. JENSEN County Agricultural Agent Old Man Winter is with us and it appears that he intends to stay for awhile. We aren't asking : for cold weather, but the snow is certainly welcome following the severe drought of last sum-i mer. Snow in the mountains isj crop insurance for next summer. I But what about the long months ' ahead until grass grows again. Are we prepared with sufficient feed to carry our livestock through; Many of the ranchers in this area did their first feeding just last week. In an open winter some would have carried through with a little supplemental feeding feed-ing or even none at all. There is a situation in our county which is very disturbing' to me. Drive through Duchesne Bridgeland and Antelope and you will see fine big stacks of alfalfa hay. Much if it is offered for sale each year, but where does it go? To Salt Lake county, Utah county and many other places outside of the Basin. Our milk and meat is worth just as much as that produced nearer the market after t he freight is paid. It will certainly pay to send it out that way instead in-stead of the hay and grain. Part of this hay can be bought if we act before outside people beat us to it. |
