Show jew Year Rides In On Gold Wave The New Year rode in on a minus thermometer at Roosevelt last Saturday morning. But, after a mild one below on New Year's day, the mercury at the local weather observation station started start-ed to climb, reaching 6 above on January 3. Warm weather, or warmer weather, was short-lived, however, how-ever, for the temperature started another downward plunze or January 4, recording 9 below, dropping to a minus 21 on the 5th, and moving up to 18 below Thursday morning. Bright sunshine featured the three successive days of subzero sub-zero weather in the Roosevelt area, but its effect was as negative, neg-ative, as the temperature. The official reading for Roosevelt Roos-evelt on Jan. 5 was only 9 . degrees de-grees warmer than the officially coldest spot in the United States. January is traditionally the coldest month for Utah, and this one, young as it is, proves to be no exception. The official readings reported by Mrs. Barbara Bar-bara Killian from the weather observation station bears out January's claim for severe weather. . . jan, l maximum, 19, minimum. mini-mum. -1; Jan, 2 maximum 23. minimum 5; Jan. 3 maximum 19. minimum 6; Jan. 4 maximum maxi-mum 16, minimum -9: Jan. 5 maximum 5. minimum -21; Jan. 6, maximum 10. minimum -18. |
