Show City Official Group Maps Vernal Meet War and postwar problems facing Utah's cities and towns will be discussed Friday and Saturday in Vernal when the state's civic officials meet for the 37th annual convention of the Utah Municipal league. Principal address at the Friday Fri-day morning sess'on, which will open at 10 a. m. in the Main Theater, will be delivered by Mayor Earl Riley. Portland, Ore. The address will be prefaced by an address of welcome by Mayor ' B. H. Stringham, Vernal and the presidential address by Mayor D. C. Watson, St. George. Mayor Riley will speak on his impres-, sions of England during wartime. war-time. Secretary's Report Miss Jo Turner, league secretary, secre-tary, will present her report and the invocation will be offered by Vern B. Muir, Logan city commissioner. com-missioner. Round table discussions will feature the Friday afternoon session on topics devoted to streets and highways, municipal airports, waterworks and sewage sew-age and finance. Dean Brimhall, research director, di-rector, civil aeronautics administration, admini-stration, Washington, D. C, will speak on the postwar development develop-ment of airports. Speakers at the waterworks and sewage round table will be Dr. A. Diefcndorf, professor of civil engineering. University of Utah, and Howard M. Hurst. I state sanitary engineer. Community Planning Major Earl J. Glade, Salt Lake City, will speak on community com-munity planning for postwar activities, and Percy J. Goddard, Goddard Abbey Co., Salt Lake City, on municipal finance and accounting at the finance round table. The Friday program will be conducted by a barbecue and dance sponsored by the Vernal Junior Chamber of Commerce. aaiuraay s general session, which opens at 10 a. m., will feature addresses by Dr. Adam S. Bennion, Salt Lake City, Republican Re-publican nominee for U S senator; sena-tor; Wendell G rover, Salt Lake City, state director of B and C road funds, and Mr. Brimhall. A business meeting for presentation pres-entation of reports and election of officers will be held at 2 p. m. at the Vogue Theater, followed at 7 p. m. with a banquet at Imperial Im-perial hall, where Mayor Riley will speak on the British local tax structure compared with American. The convention will conclude with a fish fry Sunday at 9:30 a. m. at Don's Beach in Vernal. |
