Show Parents Cautioned Polio Borders On Epidemic Stage SAL LAKE CITY Physicians and health authorities throughout through-out the nation urge that parents take special precautions to pro-i pro-i lect their children from polio- myelitis as the nation's worst polio wave in twelve years near-1 ed epidemic proportions in many sections of the middlewcst. The public health service in Washington, D. C. reports that 4,167 cases of the disease have been tabulated in the United States so far in the current outbreak, out-break, compared with 3,060 cases cas-es during the same period of the 1944 outbreak. Five cases of infantile paralysis were reported re-ported by physicians and local health officers throughout the state last week; one non-resident case and four in Salt Lake City. This week there have been two cases reported, both from Salt . Lake; one case being a five year old girl and the other a twelve year old boy. This compares with twelve reported for the first week in August of 1945. Parents are warned to keep children out of crowds and to I see that they get plenty of rest. They are further advised lo caution cau-tion youngsters against taking strenuous exercise or sudden I plunges into cold water. i |
