Show Indian Days Interest Grows As Celebration Hears The Junior Chamber of Commerce Com-merce took a hand Wednesday to add stimulus to Indian Days by announcing a novel beard contest con-test and fixing a penalty for all local males who fail to have some semblance of "chin whiskers" whis-kers" by August 20. In line with the Jaycee declaration all Roosevelt Roos-evelt males must compete, and winners will be judged according accord-ing to the novel appearance of their beards. A kangaroo court is being set up to pass judgment on violators of the whisker ruling, but no action will be taken against beardless males until August 20. As a further advertisement for Indian Days the wearing of a colored necktie bearing the inscription, in-scription, "Utah Indian Days, Roosevelt, Utah, August 22-23" will be required. The neck pieces are being made and will appear for sale on the streets within the next few days. The horse racing program for the first dav of the affair has been announced by Racing Chairman Chair-man Les Mullins, who left Thursday morning, to make known the purses and events in Salt Lake and Provo. The opening program and racing rac-ing features for August 22 will be as follows: Street parade, 10 a. m.; welcoming program. Governor Gov-ernor Herbert B. Maw, Mayor George H. Harrison and members mem-bers of the Ute Tribe; free bar-beque, bar-beque, 12:30 p. m. and horse racing rac-ing at 2 p. m. following this schedule: boy's pony race, $20 purse; saddle horse race, $35 purse; V2 mile, 3 year old, $75 purse; potato race, novelty; Vz mile. 2 year old, $45 purse; relay re-lay baton race,. novelty; Vfe.mile ladies horse face, $30 purse; musical chair, novelty; Vz mile free-for-all, $75 purse; flapper race, novelty; 4 12 furlong, $100 nurse; slow pony race, slowest horse wins, novelty; 5-8 mile free-for-all, $100 purse; Vz mile relay, $75 purse in this event there will be three horses to a string and 4 strings must be entered; en-tered; chariot races, team races to bo run in V mile heas with a $65 purse going to the heat winners, three teams will be entered en-tered in each of t he chariot races. The entrance fee on race horses hors-es has been set at 7V& per cent of the gross purse of each race, and nersons interested in entering enter-ing the racing events are asked 'o contact Les Mullins. The horse racing and the scheduled Indian sames are to be features of the Indian Days celebration. |
