Show BASIN BRIEFS - - - - n nftnf-f-ftftAii Primary Harvest Festival The Primary children of Roosevelt Roos-evelt will participate in a song, game and dance festival, August Aug-ust 16 in City Park, commencing at 4:00 p. m. The festival will mark the climax of a year's preparation pre-paration on the part of teachers and children, and parents and friends are invited to attend. The committee in charge of the event is announced by Lela Labrum, Primary president, as follows: Erma Anderton, dances; Phyllis Wardle, music; Carma Winterton, broadcasting; Pearl Jenkins and Kate Peterson, refreshments. re-freshments. JAMES B. LEMON FAMILY REUNION (by Mrs. Bertha Angus) A family reunion was held Sunday, August 4, honoring the 70th birthday anniversary of James B. Lemon. Mr. Lemon was one of the early settlers of Ioka, coming to the community some thirty-five years ago, where he has resided since. The family met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James B. Lemon then proceeded to Duchesne where a picnic dinner was enjoyed en-joyed at the City Park. Those present included Mr. and Mrs. James B. Lemon and the following children and grandchildren grand-children Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Mecham and children, Donna Merla. Milton, Leland and Carma, Car-ma, of Roosevelt; Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Mecham, of Ioka; Mrs. Edna Peterson and children, Larry, La.rid and Sherri, of Duchesne; Du-chesne; Mrs. Flora Davis and children, Blaine, Charlotte and Barbara Lynn, of Salt Lake City; Mrs. Olive Morril and children, Glenda, Afton, Carolyn, of Logan; Log-an; M)r. and Mrs. James F. Lemon Lem-on and children, Marcia, Loya, Jean and Jimmy, and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Lemon and daughter, Elaine, of Ioka. Ashton's Store Host To Employees A swimming party and beefsteak beef-steak fry was held Tuesday night at Lake Boreham for the employees em-ployees of Leslie Ashton & Sons j and their partners. After swim-ing swim-ing and supper, a campfire song fest and games were enjoyed by the thirty guests attending. ALLEN FAMILY REUNION The family of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Allen gathered last week to pay honor to their parents. Enjoying a four day camping party in Uintah Canyon below Big Spring were Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Allen, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Snyder and family, Mr. and Mrs. Art Allen and family of Roosevelt, Roose-velt, and Mr. and Mrs. O. S. Ellingford and family, of Salt , Lake City. Mrs. Paul Neissinger of New York City is visiting in Roosevelt Roose-velt with her mother, Mrs. Nettie Net-tie Stone King, and with two sisters, sis-ters, Mrs. Hugh Murray and Mrs. J. L. Collingham. She will remain in Roosevelt until Wednesday, Wed-nesday, August 14. Mrs. Myrtle Atkins returned this week from a three week trip to California. Her daugh' ter, Mrs. Harvey Creech, and children accompanied her on the trip. Charles P. Wahlquist, MM 3-c, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fred Wahlquist of Randlett, was discharged from Naval service on August 3 at Shoemaker, California. Cal-ifornia. Charles entered service December 12, 1944 and served overseas aboard the U. S. S. Lexington Lex-ington from April 1, 1945 until July 28, 1946. He is authorized to wear the American Theater ribbon, the Asiatic Pacific ribbon, rib-bon, the Victory ribbon and the Presidential Unit Citation. Mr. and Mrs. Leland Wilde have spent the past week in Roosevelt arranging for the sale of their property here. Cpl. Hartman Calls Again Cpl. Eugene Hartman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Hartman, who is now stationed in Berlin, talked to his parents last week via transatlantic telephone. He informed them that he would be leaving for home in the -very near future. This is Cpl. Hartman's third call to his home from Germany. Isabell Roller, D. C, is leaving on August 18 to attend a 2-week Palmer School Lyceum at Davenport, Dav-enport, Iowa, commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of chiropractic. chiro-practic. , Mrs. Esther Powell and four children visited here a few days last week with Mrs. Powell's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Presley Timothy. Mrs. Powell, who until three years ago owned and operated Powell's Pow-ell's Store where Gambles Store is now located, came out to attend at-tend the funeral services of Edna Mae Timothy, small daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joshua Timothy of Ioka. She was accompanied ' by her niece and nephew, Bruce and Joanne Timothy, who are well known in Salt Lake musical circles. Joanne sang a solo at the funeral services, accompanied accompan-ied by Bruce. Mr. and Mrs. Homer P. Edwards Ed-wards and son. Bill, spent the weekend in Bingham Canyon and Salt Lake City. They returned re-turned home Sunday. American Legion Auxiliary Twelve members of the American Amer-ican Legion Auxiliary enjoyed a day's outing at the Jordan cabin cab-in in Uintah Canyon. Brunch was served at about eleven o'clock and later in the day the crowd enjoyed a tempting dinner. Meeting of the Auxiliary will resume re-sume in September. Mr. and Mrs. Calvin R. Lison-bee, Lison-bee, of Salt Lake City, announce the arrival of a 7 1-8 pound baby boy, born July 16 in the Holy Cross hospital. Mr .and Mrs. Leslie C. Bloom, of 3uffalo, Montana, announce the arrival of a 7 1-8 pound baby boy, born August 1 at the Roosevelt Roose-velt hospital. Mrs. Bloom is the former Miss Valora Lisonbee. Daughters of Utah Pioneers All Daughters of Utah Pioneers Pio-neers are urged to attend the county convention August 15 at the Roosevelt L. D. S. chapel starting at 1:00 p. m. Special guests from the State Central Company at Salt Lake City will be in attendance. Lunch will be served. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Smith, and Mr. and Mrs. George Hill-man, Hill-man, from Hawthorn, Nevada, visited three days last week with Mr. Smith's mother, Mrs. Sarah A. Smith, and with his sister and brother-in-law. Mr. and Mrs. Farrell Wilkins. They returned to Nevada Friday evening. Miss Arlene Lisonbee returned return-ed home Monday after spending the past six weeks at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin R. Lisonbee Lison-bee of Salt Lake City. Mrs. S. L. Reinsimar and young son, Terry, of Salt Lake City, are house guests of Mrs. Reinsimar's Barents, Mr. and Mrs. Orville Dart of Myton. Bert L. Dart, Jr., of Price, Utah, is the house guest of Willis Dart at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Orville Dart. Mrs. Robert Dean was operated operat-ed on Saturday morning at the Roosevelt hospital. Her condition was considered serious for a short time, but she is getting along nicely now. Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Angus and son, Richard Kent, vacationed last week at the Jordan cabin in Uintah Canyon. Lela Hacking visited last week at Lapoint with her grandparents, grandpar-ents, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Hacking. Hack-ing. E. M. Dunsworth, of Pampa, Texas, was the guest preacher at the Roosevelt Baptist church, Sunday evening, August 4. He also spoke at the Artesia Baptist Bap-tist church on Sunday morning. Mrs. Parley Rawlings and children chil-dren left Sunday afternoon for Bingham Canyon, where they will spend a week visiting with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Murphy and children are spending a week's vacation visiting in Provo. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Murphy and family left Wednesday for Heber where they will visit for a short time with Mrs. Murphy's mother. Miss Donna Rose Boren, of Bingham Canyon, has been visiting vis-iting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Homer P. Edwards. She returned re-turned home Tuesday. Marianne Larsen, little daughter daugh-ter of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Larsen, entertained a group of her little friends at Victory Park Tuesday, the occasion being her sixth birthday anniversary. The little guests included Kay Labrum, La-brum, Sharlene Larsen, Carol Todd, Linda Lou Schmiett, Carol Car-ol Allred, Tana Gagon, Norma Hadlock, Cecil Kay Jenkins, Rosanne Marsh, Joanne Allred, Boyd Hahlock, Val Labrum, Homer Cook, Miles Nelson, Larry Lar-ry Larsen, Charles Jenkins, Roger Larsen. She was assisted in the entertainment of her I guests by her mother. j Mrs. Dave Allen and daughter have been visiting friends and ; relatives in the Basin for the past two weeks. ' Miles and Paul Nelson, the little sons of Mr. and Mrs. Elmo Nelson of Bingham Canyon, are viting at the home of their grandparents, grand-parents, Mr. and Mrs. Homer P. Edwards Mrs. Nathan Allen and daughter, daugh-ter, Francine, spent the past week in Salt Lake City visiting at the home of Mrs. Allen's mother, Mrs. Grace Ball. Mrs. Johnnie Cook and daughters, daugh-ters, Carol Lynn and Julianne, have been visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Elmo Nelson, of Bingham Canyon, for the past week. Miles Dillman went to Layton Monday on a business trip. Mrs. Ray E. Dillman and Mrs. Frank Orser are spending this week at the Dillman cabin in Uintah Canyon. Mrs. Lyle Young was brought to the Roosevelt hospital Tuesday Tues-day suffering from broken ribs and a probable skull fracture resulting from a fall from a cement porch. Ted Phillips is in the Veteran's hospital in Salt Lake City undergoing under-going medical treatment. 4-H Club News The Myton 4-H held a meeting Tuesday, July 30 at the home of Cherry Dennis. They cut out dresses and planned a trip to the Uinta mountains August 8th to August 11th. They will go in Mr. Linck's truck. The Hopeful Cooking Club had its meeting this week at the home of Lela Hacking. Plans were made for the 4-H camping trip. The Ioka 4-H Rainbow Club met at the home of its leader Sunday afternoon. Plans were made for a trip to Uintah Canyon Can-yon and rehearsal staged for a forthcoming program. The three groups of Arcadia 4-H girls met Sunday afternoon to make final arrangements for their trip up Uintah Canyon. The average individual would make faster progress, along every line, if he received more help and less advice. |
