Show Girls - Hoop Race Down the Stretch Will the two remaining teams for the girls state basketball tournament please stand up. By DAVE WIGHAM Clipper Sports BOUNTIFUL Just like their male counterparts coun-terparts the region standings for the girls basketball bas-ketball teams are clustered in the middle. With only three region games left and only four state berths up for grabs each remaining game gets put in the must win column for most of the teams. SURE WE know that Highland is running aw ay w ith the region crown with their perfect 7-0 record and the only team that can catch them is second place Davis who sits at 5-2 but from then on it's anyone's guess as to the other two entrants in the upcoming state event. Viewmont, Bountiful and Woods Cross all find themselves in the middle of the pack with identical 3-4 records with East bringing up the rear at 1-6. If you were looking for the toughest schedule of the three middle group then you would have to stop and take a look at Woods game. Jenny Miller had an outstanding game for the Vikes as she scored 2 1 points and was credited with 18 rebounds. Becky Duncan aided the cause with 13 points. BOUNTIFUL AND Viewmont have their destinies in their own hands since they have home and home games slated against each other in the next two weeks. On Thursday, the Braves travel to Viewmont and then next Friday Fri-day the Vikes will pay a return visit to Bountiful. Bounti-ful. In between those two games the Vikings have a Tuesday battle with East while Bountiful Bounti-ful will fight Davis on the same day. In action last week Davis dumped Viewmont 55-48, Bountiful put a scare into Highland before be-fore losing 51-45 while Woods Cross came from behind to nip East 45-42. DAVIS 55 VIEWMONT 48 The Darts used their home floor advantage to slip past the Vikings who had knocked off the Darts in an earlier meeting at Viewmont. This was actually a closer game than the final score would indicate, "we were only down by four points with two minutes to play but then we had to foul to try to get back into the game," admitted Viking coach Vi Hillman, "as it turned out they hit the foul shots," she said. FOR AWHILE it looked as if this would be a cakewalk for the Lady Darts as they built up a 16 point. lead during the contest but then the Vikes put on a press and got back into the |
