CITY ADMINISTRATOR Mark Palesh said the cost of the four major creek projects will total about S864.650 -- about one-half the engineer's en-gineer's estimate. "We found the contractors hungry for work and got some very good bids, much lower than we had expected." explained Mayor Neil Blackburn. MR. Bids have not yet been let on Deuel Creek storm debris basin, but Davis County will use one of its new large pieces of equipment to begin digging the basin, the city administrator noted. Bids to complete the basin work w ill be let later, he said. M.C. GREEN Construction Company had the low bids for both the Ricks and Parrish Canyon streams: Herm Hughes and Sons will be genera contractor for Barnard Creek; and Gibbons and Reed Construction Company will handle the work on the 400 South Aqueduct. "We're moving ahead on these projects as rapidly as possible." said Mayor Blackburn. HE EXPLAINED that the city is negotiating with Davis County to trade some city-owned property along Deuel Creek for some additional addition-al funds to be used on other projects. "That way. Davis County will have sole control of the basins and natural creek channels chan-nels -- and Centerville will have no jurisdiction over the channels and basins except as a consultant con-sultant by the city engineer who is on contract with the county," said Mayor Blackburn. "THE COUNTY will supervise all work, inspect in-spect and accept the projects, pay all the bills and have total control over the creeks and basins. , .... ,., - - - ...... - -1 |
