Show Davis Women Retain Crown In County Track i ; " On the individual basis, the meet was a deadheat with both Davis and Clearfield crowning five champions. By DAVE WIGHAM Clipper Sports LAYTON -- The Davis High girls continue their strung hold on the Davis County Invitational Invita-tional as the Dart females won yet another title last week with their 138 team points. CLEARFIELD was a distant second with 114 followed by Viewmont, Layton, Woods Cross and Bountiful. On the individual basis the meet was a deadheat with both Davis and Clearfield crowning five champions with Layton earning three, Woods Cross a couple and Viewmont one. HERE THEN is a look at the winners in each event, with the local schools top efforts. JAVELIN: Viewmont got their lone champion cham-pion in this event as senior Jill Barlow tossed the javelin 122' 10" to easily take top honors. JoAnn Davenport of Davis was third, Terri Hartley of the Darts in fifth and Paula Osick of Woods Cross in sixth spot. SHOT PUT: The Darts picked up some big points here with Tracy Belt winning and Angie Norris in second. The winning toss was 35' 1". Sophomore Jenny Miller of Viewmont was a strong third with Pam Herbert of the Vikes in fifth and Carol Avei of Woods Cross sixth. HIGH JUMP: Clearfield went one-two in this event with Laura Zaugg the only competitor competi-tor clearing 5'. Barbara Brooks of the Wildcats Wild-cats was third with Sarah Hiller of Davis in fourth. 1600 METERS: The Darts simply dominated this race with Cindy Sorenson winning, Julie Molyneaux in second and Jennifer Davis in third. Kim Ward of the Vikings managed a sixth place showing. DISCUS: The Darts also won the title here with Angie Norris throwing the discus 92' 10" for top spot. Kellie Knight of Viewmont was runnerup with Jenny Miller of the Vikes in third, Tracy Belt of the Darts was fourth, Carol Avei of Woods Cross fifth and Jill Barlow of Viewmont in sixth. 100 METER HURDLES: Myba Tyson of Layton edged out Tiffany Reynolds of the Vikings Vik-ings for the win in this race that was run under the worst weather conditions possible. Leslie Tarr of Davis was third with Maren Hansen of Woods Cross in fourth. Bountiful also picked up points with Brenda Christiansen in fifth place and Becky LeFever in sixth. 100 METERS: Laura Zaugg of Clearfield became be-came a double winner with a time of 13.45 to win this sprint over Darlene Stockton of Davis. Denise Christiansen of Viewmont was third in the event. 400 METER RELAY: Layton proved to have the four fastest females in this race as the Lady Lancers edged out Clearfield for the medal with Davis in third and Viewmont fourth. 400 METERS: Stephanie Clements of Clearfield Clear-field won top honors in this one lap race with the best showing of a local gal being Judy Bennett Ben-nett of Viewmont who was third. LONG JUMP: Senior Maren Hansen, who does just about everything and anything for the Wildcats, leaped 16'0" to win this event for Woods Cross with Cathy Rees of Davis in fourth. 300 METER HURDLES. Melba Tyson of Layton made it a double win in the hurdles as she edged out Tiffany Reynolds of Viewmont, the winning time was 49.63 with second being 49.86. Lisle Tarr of Davis was third with Maren Hansen of Woods Cross in fourth and Marjorie Tonge of the Wildcats in fifth. 800 METERS: Elizabeth Taylor finished strong to give the Woods Cross girls their second title as she beat Joan Hadley of Viewmont View-mont in this race. Jennifer Davis of Davis was fourth with Donna Jordan of Bountiful in fifth. MEDLEY RELAY: Davis showed their depth in the sprints and distance races with a first place effort in this relay which they defeated defe-ated Clearfield, Layton, Viewmont and Bountiful. Boun-tiful. 200 METER: Stephanie Clements, voted the outstanding female athlete, came back in this event to win her second title of the meet as she ran past Suzie Orton of Davis who was second 3200 METERS: Again the Davis gjr5 showed their strength in the long distance races with a one-two finish from Cindy Sorenson, Soren-son, who also won the 1600 meters, and Julie Molyneaux. Amy Anderson of Viewmont was third with Karen Lee of Davis in sixth. MILE RELAY: Clearfield proved to be top; in this race with Davis in second followed b) Viewmont and Layton. |
