Show Conclave Held On Education Problems Wed. The often disputed question, "are school patrons interested in what goes on in the schools," was clearly demonstrated in the affirmative affir-mative last Wednesday night. At a meeting held in the high school auditorium, a reasonably large number of local citizens expressed1 themselves actively in trying to solve the perplexing problems now confronting education in Uttah. The meeting was in response to a state-wide movement planned to secure "grass-roots" opinions and suggestions as to how the schools may be improved. A, summary of the ideas expressed will be sent on to Washington, D.C. as a part of the agenda cf President Eisenhower's Eisen-hower's Whitehouse Conference on Education. The following questions were considered, according to Principal Calvin Walker, chairman of the meeting. 1. How can our schools be organized or-ganized more efficiently and economically eco-nomically ? 2. What are our school building needs ? 3. How can we continue to finance fin-ance our schools ? Build new ones and operate them ? 4. What should our schools accomplish ac-complish ? 5. How can we obtain a continuing con-tinuing interest in education? Mr. Walker stated that he was most agreeably impressed with the practical solutions that were suggested sug-gested by the lay members present at the meeting. If nothing more was accomplished, a keen and active ac-tive interest was stimulated locally local-ly as to the current educational problems, he concluded. |
