Show UP Railroad Pays 27 Million in Wages and Taxes Wages and taxes paid by Union Un-ion Pacific Railroad in Otah during dur-ing 1959 totaled more than 27 million dollars, the railroad announced an-nounced today. Final figures for the year show employees in 'the state were paid $25,511,058 in wages and state county and local taxes came to more than $1,900,000. Taxes in Utah County were $61,873. The tax total includes payments by the Union Pacific-owned Utah Parks Company in .Garfield, Iron, Kane and Washington counties, and $89,000 which was U.P.'s share of taxes on the Ogden Union Un-ion Railway and Depot Company, of which it owns half. Total wage payments for 1959 in the 13 western states in which the railroad operates came to $239,582,007, an increase of more than $2,600,000 over the 1958 figure. Total taxes paid by the road last year, including Federal taxes amounted to over $79,400,000 more than $6,000,000 over the 1958 total. Union Pacific's tax bill exceeded its 1959 net income by more than $14,500,000. |
