Show GORDON D.' HAWKINS to speak at program Hawkins Will Speak at July 3 Program Gordon D. Hawkins, general manager of the Bakersfield California Cali-fornia office of the New York Life Insurance Company, will be the guest speaker at the annual ' patriotic program sponsored by the Presidency . of Timpanogos Stake. The event, traditionally held at the Ampitheatre of Utah State Training School, is scheduled this year for 7:30 p.m., Sunday evening, even-ing, July 3, under the general chairmanship of Mr. and Mrs. Karl Banks. Mr. Hawkins will speak on this year's theme, "Attributes of a Great American." Special prayers, pray-ers, musical numbers and flag ceref onies will be included on the program. The program is open to the public and everyone in North Utah County is cordially invited. Mr. Hawkins was bom in American Am-erican Fork, the son of Mrs. Mar-cell Mar-cell Hawkins Skinner ad the late Harry Hawkins. He was educated educat-ed in the American Fork Schools and Brigham Young University. He is a fluent and convincing public speaker having filled speaking engagements throughout through-out the United States. The following is quoted from the biographical sketch from Brigham Young University's Executive Ex-ecutive Lecturer's program. "Breaking records is a habit to personable Gordon Hawkins, a former studentbody president of Brigham Young University. He has continued his winning ways, his latest achievement hav- ing been that of recipient of the President's Trophy, the top a-ward a-ward for the best personal record of the 230 general managers of his company. In receiving this honor at Bakersfield, California, for the second consecutive year, he has smashed all preceding records. In his first year as a life in-1 in-1 surance agent, he was one of the top agents in the company and was the youngest agent to make the highest club in the company. In 1950 he was made assistant manager of the Utah General Office. Of-fice. In 1953 and 1954 he was the leading assistant manager in the company, both in the United States and in Canada. By 1957 his personal appointees for the preceding three years led the whole company in volume of business busi-ness written. An ex-Marine and one-time heavyweight boxing champfon of Central and South Pacific area, Mr. Hawkins now is engaged in such civic activities as the Chamber Cham-ber of Commerce, YMCA, YWCA, and boy scout work. He is a member of the Kiwanis Club and currently a member of the Board of Directors of this organization. Leadership positions in the LDS Church such as stake superintendent superin-tendent of the YMMIA, superintendent superin-tendent of Sunday School, and teacher of various classes are examples ex-amples of his service to his church. |
