Show Council Meeting Monday Has Road Problem for Discussion A much shorter than usual meeting was held by the City Council last Monday night. Other . than routine business, only one serious problem was considered by Mayor Burton H. Adams and the Councilmen present. A delegation from the Battle Creek Heights area waited upon the Council. They presented a petition signed by praotically ev- ery citizen who resides east of the end of the Battle Creek Drive roadpaving project. The signers of the petition requested re-quested that the city proceed at once to - complete the road-paving road-paving job east to the limits of the residential area. The Mayor and council members mem-bers explained that the sewer extension ex-tension project wa3 completed, with the exception of laterals into in-to the property line; but as yet the soil had not had time to settle. Any permanent road improvement im-provement done before next spring would be just a waste of money, they advised. However, the city fathers agreed to remove the clay from the street and -replace it with road gravel. Proper maintenance of such a road would result in no serious hardship to anyone for a year, the councilmen argued. As a more permanent solution to the Battle Creek Drive traffic problem, the council authorized Mayor Adams to petition the U.S. government for . funds to build another bridge over the Deer Creek Canal. This would make possible a second'access road to the area. |
