Show Reporter Tells of California Tour; Ten Students Participate ed Into the cars and started for California. We arrived in Upland in the afternoon. The girls stayed there at the home of Mr. and Mrs. S. LaVar Chi-istcnsen, parents par-ents of Mrs. Schwartz. The boys stayed at the Upl.-md Motel, which was anything but Sleeping Beauty's Beau-ty's castle, but they were never there long onough to mind it. We didn't have too much money mon-ey for expenses, so we had to economiz.0 all the way around. The next week was everything from hectic to exciting to fabulous. fab-ulous. It started Monday moming with a tour of CBS Television City in Hollywood and ended with an afternoon at Disneyland Saturday. Sat-urday. In between were crowded visits to television sots at MGM Studio, NBC Color City at Burbank, ABC Studio, Revue Studio at Universal-International, interviews with the stars, a trip to Marineland, and the boaeh, and of course, our meals. On top of all this, we found ourselves continually getting lost on the freeway. We left for home unexpectedly late Saturday night. We had to be back at school on Monday and we decided that we would be better off traveling at night. We stopped only for gas and food, and occasionally to change drivers. driv-ers. We arrived home Sunday afternoon, af-ternoon, tired but thrilled at the experiences we had enjoyed. "California, here we come!" This was the shout given by ten Utah County students (seven girls and three boys) Saturday morning, April 8 as they departed depart-ed on a goodwill tour to California. Cali-fornia. We were chosen on the basis of writing ability, grades, maturity matur-ity and personality. The trip was sponsored by the Chamber 'of Commerce and the local paper of each student. We were accompanied accom-panied by Mrs. Elayne Sehwartz of Frovo, who engineered the trip We went in three cars. This gave the girls room for their luggage, lug-gage, of which there was plenty. We took everything but the kitchen kit-chen sink. There was enough excitement on the way to koep us awake. North of Cedar City one of the tires blew off tread. We all piled out to help change the tire. It was the first time most of the girls had done this, so we were really glad the boys had come along. Las Vegas was another "first" for most of us. We spent Saturday Satur-day night there at a motel. In the aftomoon we drove out to Boulder Dam and had a few sick girls on our hands when they looked down at the gigantic structure. Dinner that night was eaten at the "Silver Slipper." It added excitement to the evening when I discovered I had forgotten my toothbrush (of all things) and we ran all over Las Vegas for a new one. Next on the agenda was downtown down-town Las Vegas and a tour of the casinos. This in itself was an experience ex-perience to remember. Early Sunday morning we pU- |
