Show Utah Bankers Sponsor Prize Essay Contests A prize essay contest on the subject: sub-ject: "Services Offered by Banks and Their Values to Community Life" is announced by the Utah Bankers Association and the Peoples Peo-ples State Bank of American Fork. Competition in the contest will be on both a local and a state basis, announces Clifford E. Young, of the local bank. The Peoples State Bank will award three cash prizes for the best essays on the above-named above-named subject, written by students of the three upper grades of the high school. The winning essay will be entered in the state contest con-test sponsored bv the Utah Bankers association. For the best essays on the designated desig-nated subject, the Peoples State Bank will make cash awards of $15 for first prize, $10 for second prize, and $5 for third prize. The essays will be judged by the principal of the high school or by a committee named by him, and the winning essay submitted in the state contest con-test there will be awarded a cash prize of 50; for the second best, $30; and for the third, $20. As an added distinction and award, the student submitting the winning essay es-say will be invited to attend the annual convention of the Utah Bankers association with all expenses ex-penses paid and will foe given the opportunity of personally presenting present-ing his or her essay before the convention. con-vention. Essays must be completed and handed in to the principal of the high school on or before 3:30 p. m., April 25. To enter, the contestant should notify and register with the principal. The essays must not exceed ex-ceed 1000 words. Purpose of the contest, the Utah ( Bankers association announces, is to promote a knowledge and to stimulate the interest of the young people in the functions of a bank. The banks of the state, through their organization, want everyone to have a sound knowledge of banking bank-ing from the customers' point of view. These bankers wish particularly particu-larly to have such valuable and practical information come to the young men and women just now preparing for the business world. An aciive interest in the local contest is being shown u the American Amer-ican Fork high school, according to Clifford E. Young. Already a number num-ber of students have rasde known their intentions of entering the contest, and are starting to work on their essays. Contestants are advised to study the subject, and to talk it over with their teachers, parents, and their local bankers, and from this study and exchange of ideas they will be able to write better bet-ter original essays. |
